On May 12 Zaryadye Park in Moscow will host the Festival and Contest of Children’s Brass Bands Spasskaya Tower for Kids.
In 2018, the contest is going to be held by the Directorate of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival backed by the Mayor and the Government of the city of Moscow.
During the festival, the children’s bands will be qualified for the Children’s Brass Bands Festival, which first took place in 2013. Year after year, the project is growing and developing — its geographical reach is expanding, the number of participants is increasing. One of the goals set by the organizers is to discover and support talented young musicians, promote their cultural advancement.
In 2017, the Festival and Contest first presented the performance of the Combined Children’s Brass Band. About a thousand of young music players conducted by the bandmaster of the President’s Band, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Colonel Evgeny Nikitin played popular and well-liked tunes: the State Anthem of the Russian Federation, Victory Day, Glory, My Moscow, May the Sun Shine Forever, etc. The idea to organize a combined children’s band came to the long-time music director of the Spasskaya Tower Festival General-Lieutenant Valery Khalilov and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Olga Golodets.
The Large Amphitheater of Zaryadye Park will host the Parade and Contest in 2018. The new stage will help make the event more interesting and educative for both participants and visitors. Zaryadye is not just a park, it’s a new type of public space integrating nature and technologies, education and entertainment, history and contemporaneity.
The talent and skills of the young musicians will be judged by the expert panel composed of eminent brass and orchestral performers. The winners will be granted the right to appear in the Festival’s final, which will be held without winners determination and is to take place from the 24th through the 26th of August in the Red Square on the stage of the Children Playground within the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival.
