The Remains of Italian Soldiers Victims of the World War II Return to Italy

Go back

Today, on April 10, the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Moscow hosted a mass celebrated by Apostolic nuncio Celestino Migliore in memory of Italian soldiers died in the territory of Russia during the World War II.

Mr. Pasquale Terracciano, Italian Ambassador to Moscow, claimed at the ceremony the Military Memorials Association helped to exhume the remains of Italian soldiers. Over the past 10 months, thanks to the support of this organization, the remains of one hundred Italian soldiers were exhumed; some were found in the vicinity of Voronezh, others — in the Rostov region (RIA Novosti).

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival Directorate. The Republic of Italy boasts many years of friendship and warmest relations with the Festival: through the years, the Air Force Band, Bersaleri «Guglielmo Colombo», the Band of Carabiniers, the Municipal Police of Rome Band, as well as the flagwavers from Gubbio, Sansepolcro, Arezzo, Cori, Caetani and Sermoneta has stepped onto Red Square.

We are glad that the soldiers fell victims in one of the most terrible wars of the 20th century will find their eternal peace in their native land.
