For about two hours the audience didn’t let the artists leave the stage. The repertoire included both Russian and foreign classical music pieces by Shostakovich, Dvorzhak, Khachaturyan and others. The music evening was adjourned by “Slavsya, Slavsya…”, “Song about the Soldier”, “I Love You, Life” and other melodies that are so dear and close to the heart of every Russian.

During the concert the conductor’s stand was taken by Colonel Timofey Mayakin, Head of the Military Music Band Service of the Russian Federation — Chief Military Conductor and People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, by Colonel Sergey Durygin, Head of the Central Military Band of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and Honored Artist of Russia as well as by Colonel Konstantin Petrovich, Conductor of the Band.

During their tour musicians of the Central Military Band of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation visited the Kuril Islands featuring Shikotan, Kunashir and Iturup as well as performed in front of the passengers and crew of the Igor Farkhutdinov ship.

The Spasskaya Tower on Sakhalin Wind Bands Festival has been held since 2009 and is traditionally being organized at the beginning of autumn. Mr. Vil Akhmetov, host of the concert, expressed words of gratitude to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergey Shoygu as well as to the Governor of the Sakhalin Region for their assistance in organizing the festival.

This year’s festival events have been dedicated to the 73d anniversary of the end of the World War II and liberation of Southern Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. The final concert was held at the Oktyabr Cinema and Concert Hall.
