Participants from Greece Made their Debut at the Spasskaya Tower Festival

The Army Band of the Hellenic Army Supreme Military Support Command "Theseus" together with the Historic Parades Platoon of the Hellenic General Staff made their debut at the Fourteenth Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival.

Our guests from Greece had the honor to be the first foreign participants to step onto the cobblestones of Red Square. It’s worth noting that it’s been only this year that the Historic Parades Platoon saw light to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution (March 25). The unit was named historic as its members perform in the parade uniforms of various epochs. To be exact, there are six different uniforms: the oldest one belongs to the years 1828 - 1834, the Kapodistrias period, while the latest pieces are of 1946 – 1949 period, which have largely become the base for the current form.

Musicians together with the platoon members march onto Red Square to the sounds of Greek traditional dancing melodies showing the audiences intricate regrouping patterns and pantomimes that some of them, according to the platoon commander 1st Lieutenant Karandinos Georgios, symbolise the Olympics Games.

And, of course, Greeks wouldn’t have been themselves if they hadn’t brought to Moscow their national Sirtaki dance as well as its unique atmosphere of joy and celebration.
