For the first time in its history the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival will welcome participants from Qatar. As many as three military groups will represent the future host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup onstage of the Festival, featuring the Qatar Military Music Band, Military Parades Platoon and Police Band.

The first military band within the Qatar Armed Forces was formed at the early 1949 with trumpet players alone whose main task was limited to playing military calls. Later they were joined by drummers and wind players. Finally, in 1958 the Al-Qirb Band was established to form the nucleus of the future Qatar Military Music Band. Today the Qatar Military Music Band is an up-scale ensemble featuring a symphonic orchestra, a cavalry unit, a camel unit and a folklore section.

“The Qatar Military Music Band is an experienced international performer. Since 1973 in response to many requests from its friends and partners the ensemble has participated in various military music festivals in Bahrain, Italy, France, Germany, Oman, the UAE and US, as well as within the 2010 China Expo”, noted at the Spasskaya Tower Festival Directorate.

The Qatar Police Band is the leading musical division of the country Ministry of Interior. It was formed in 1950 and featured a single section of trumpets. Since then the band has significantly evolved increasing its volume to 218 musicians on copper, rhythmic and other instruments. The Police Band takes part in all police and civil events and ceremonies held in the State of Qatar as well as represents its country abroad.

Thus, “The Qatar Police Band had the honor to accompany the Thirteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, where the opening ceremony was honored by His Highness The Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Besides regular military marches musicians usually perform national tunes using both traditional wind and local instruments”, highlighted the Festival’s organizers.

The Qatar Military Parades Platoon was formed in 2016 out of the best members of the Armed Forces who has excelled in their infantry training basic course. In 2017 the group began its training on silent parade movements under the supervision of the local trainers, a year later, in 2018, they were joined by the instructors from Belarus. After three years of hard training and dedicate work members of the unit managed to master their skills to the level allowing them to perform silent military parades in front of big audiences and on all military and civil occasions.

The Military Parades Platoon is the permanent participant of the annual Qatar National Day parade. It always takes part in all military music events held across the country as well as festivals organised by the Katara Cultural Center in Doha. Besides it accompanies military colleges graduation ceremonies.
