When talking about the Russian Navy, one will certainly remember the image of the gorgeous Central Band of the Russian Navy named after Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, regarded to be the marine’s pride and glory. Established in the hardest years of the Great Patriotic War, the band got its first major title just a few years later. By the end of the war, in 1945, the word exemplary was added to the ensemble’s official name. The same year, on June 24, the band musicians took part in the historic 1945 Victory Parade on Red Square commemorating the defeat of the Nazi Germany. Along the artistic path the marine band has seen on its helm a plethora of outstanding military conductors, each shaping the ensemble’s unique creativity style. The band’s record lists a wide array of activities, from concert programs, radio and TV performances to prominent artists’ collaborations and participation in the world’s biggest festivals.
The band has already performed in Finland, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Germany, US and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Today, the Central Band of the Russian Navy named after Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is one of the best military artistic associations of the Russian Armed Forces, and is acknowledged both in the country and abroad. As part of their official duties musicians perform at high-level official events (featuring leaders of the state) and those organized by the Russian Ministry of Defense and Navy within the international military and cultural cooperation framework. The band never misses a single Victory Day Parade on Red Square as well as the Main Naval Parade in St Petersburg. Either onstage of the most prominent concert halls or in the farthest military garrisons musicians of the Central Band of the Russian Navy never spare themselves, giving all their affection to the audiences and always receiving positive feedback.
