The Eleventh Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival prepares a plethora of surprises for its audience. For the first time in the Festival’s history the band representing the Republic Union of Myanmar, the emerald of the South East Asia region, will step out onto the pavement of Red Square.
This year the Military Ensemble of the Myanmar Armed Forces celebrates its 30th anniversary. The history of the group dates back to 1988 when in the Hmawbi township (Yangon) the Myanmar Military Musical Troop was formed. Later other branches of the Myanmar Armed Forces got their own musical troops. Being the guarantee of freedom, independence and territorial integrity, the Myanmar Armed Forces include Army, Navy and Air Forces.
Nowadays the Military Ensemble of the Myanmar Armed Forces combines five music corps. Warrant Officer Thet Naing Soe is the ensemble’s band master. The group is directed by the Lieutenant Colonel Min Thant Zaw.
Through its performances at Spasskaya Tower the participants of the Military Ensemble of the Myanmar Armed Forces will introduce the Festival’s audience to the music culture and national identity of their country.
