Music Ball Thundered in Vorontsovskiy Park

Go back

Saturday, July 14, the Military Band of the Military Training and Research Center “Combined Arms Academy of the Russian Federation Armed Forces” performed on the main stage of Vorontsovskiy Park near one of the most ancient Russian mansions of the capital.

With a quarter of an hour left before the concert of the renowned band which counts more than 80 years of history the square in front of the main stage started to be filled with admirers of wind music.

Let’s us notice that this performance makes part of the “Military Bands in the Parks” program which for the third year in a row is being organized by the Directorate of the International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower” with the support of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and Government of Moscow.

At 5 p.m. sharp under the accompaniment of the gentle murmur of the ancient park trees the first composition of the evening was played. It was a waltz by Boris Moshkov “Summer Serenade”. The dancing venue opened almost simultaneously with the first sounds of music. Pairs of the “silver age”, newlyweds and families who came to the park that evening with their children started waltzing around.

“Concerts of military bands represent a real present for all residents of the capital. We have two small children and we often walk around the park. Our today’s evening can be called a music one and it’s great!” noted Ivan and Natalia Gromovy, parents of two babies.

The “Military Bands in the Parks” program is a unique opportunity for the Muscovites and guests of the capital to get acquainted with the work of musicians, many of whom are participants of the International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower”. This year the Festival is going to be held on Red Square from August 24 to September 2.

The concert evening in Vorontsovskiy Park has the full right to be called a ball. During the band’s performance viewers heard several old-time marches, mazurka and potpourri of popular pre-war compositions. The leading singer of the group Daria Vorob’eva performed the waltz “Tsaritsa Balla” (“The Queen of the Ball”).

During her performance the pairs waltzed around the dance pole and it seemed that all the viewers were taken several centuries back in history, to the “golden age” of the ancient “Vorontsovo” mansion, history of which dates back to the XVI century.

As usual musicians have prepared special gifts for their viewers. For all the Muscovites the military band performed the music fantasy “This is Moscow” which enveloped songs about the best city on Earth.

For admirers of foreign melodies they performed a hit of a Mexican piano player and composer Consuelo Velázquez Torres “Besame Mucho”.

One of the final songs of the concert was “Thank You Music” from the well-known movie “We are from Jazz”. The evening was adjourned with the enthusiastic applause accompanied by everybody’s favorite march “Farewell of Slavianka”.

“Your smiles and applause have made this evening to be really warm and sunny. Thank you for your warm welcome. We do not promise you that we won’t meet again”, told the viewers the conductor of the band Lieutenant Colonel Sergey Kolesnikov.

To recap, this band music concert represents the continuation of a series of performances which are being held every Saturday in parks and gardens of the capital from May till August.

Next Saturday, July 21, as many as two concerts await the Muscovites and guests of the capital. The Exemplary Band of the Russian Emergencies Ministry is going to be the headliner of the first concert. The band is going to perform at 2 p.m. in the Bauman Garden. The second music program is going to be held at 5 p.m. in Izmailovskiy Park. The Muscovites and guests of the capital will be entertained by the Band of the National Guard Forces.
