The opening ceremony of the monument in honor of the military conductor, composer and musical director of the International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower” Valery Khalilov is going to be held on Monday, June 11, in Tambov.

The opening of the monument is going to be held within the VII International Brass Bands Festival named after V. Agapkin and A. Shatrov, the founder and musical director of which was the head of the Military Music Service of the Russian Armed Forces, main military conductor (2002 — 2016) and People’s Artist of Russia Lieutenant General Valery Khalilov.

It’s very symbolic that the monument will be placed in the green territory adjacent to the Pushkin’s Library not far from the combined monument to the military conductor Vasiliy Agapkin, the author of the legendary march “Farewell of Slavianka”, and Ilya Shatrov, the composer who created the waltz “Na sopkakh Manjchjurii” (“On Manchuria Hills”). The opening ceremony of that combined monument had been attended by Valery Khalilov himself.

“The opening of the monument doesn’t intend drawing everyone’s attention to the person of Valery Mikhailovich, a prominent figure of the modern days’ music. Its aim is to draw attention to the whole military music service of the country — to conductors, musicians, military artists, to their immense will of power, might, talent, diligence, individuality and loyalty to their activities and moreover to their Motherland Russia”, told the wife of the legendary musician Nataliya Khalilova.

More than three meters high, the bronze monument portrays the famous bandmaster standing on his feet with a conductor’s stick in his hands. The pedestal is made of granite and decorated with trumpets.

The gesture of the People’s Artist of Russia reads loud silence — the band is waiting still, one more second and he will wave his stick and there will be music.

The author of the monument is Alexander Mironov, a sculptor from Moscow, teacher of the Moscow State Institute of Arts named after V. I. Surikov.

June 11 will see another significant event that is the opening of the exhibition named “Valery Khalilov: with Music in the Ranks for Good” in the Museum Exhibition Center of the Tambov region.

The exhibition is going to present personal belongings of the prominent conductor and a unique collection of photographs from the family and “Spasskaya Tower” Festival archives dedicated to his artistic career.

Daughter of Valery Mikhailovich said that the initiative of holding this exhibition in honor of Valery Khalilov was announced by the representatives of the museum exhibition complex of Tambov.

“In a while after the plane crash in December, 2016 the representatives of the museum exhibition complex of Tambov contacted us and requested us to hand over to the museum personal belongings and photographs regarding the life and artistic career of Valery Mikhailovich. The exhibition will show his concert costume, service jacket, conductor’s stick, glasses and other personal belongings as well as photographs from the composer’s personal archive”, told Maria Khalilova.

She noticed that “the opening of this monument and exhibition is a very hard but at the same time very touching moment for the family of the military conductor”. Besides she told that Tambov was one of her father’s favorite cities where he enjoyed coming in his childhood and then annually to the brass bands festival.

Besides, the opening of the exhibition will be marked by the presentation of a book about Valery Khalilov written by Professor Irina Tsareva.

The exhibition “Valery Khalilov: with Music in the Ranks for Good” is going to open June 11 at 4 p.m. in the Museum Exhibition Center of the Tambov region.

The opening ceremony of the monument in honor of Valery Khalilov is going to be held June 11 at 6 p.m. in the territory adjacent to the Pushkin’s Library.
