Combined Brass Band Has Played in Moscow’s Alexander Garden!

Go back

May 19 in Moscow was marked by the launching of the “Military Bands in the Parks” program being realized the second year in a row by the “Spasskaya Tower” Festival Directorate with the support of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Government of Moscow.

Three bands of the Military Music Service of the Russian Armed Forces have participated in the opening ceremony of the Program. They were the Exemplary Band of the Honor Guard, the Military Band of the 154 Preobrazhensky Regiment and the Band of the Moscow Military Music College named after Lieutenant General Valery Khalilov.

First concerts of the second season of 2018 “Military Bands in the Parks” program were held on three sites of Moscow. The Muscovites and guests of the capital picked up tunes and danced to the well-known melodies of the past and popular modern compositions in the Alexander Garden, on Manezh and Borovitskaya squares.

The grand opening was held in front of the Italian grotto in the Alexander Garden. Among the participants there were:

  • Colonel Timofey MAYAKIN — Head of the Military Band Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation — chief military conductor, member of the Arts Council of the International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower”;
  • Vladimir FILIPPOV -Deputy Head of the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow;
  • Vladimir DORONKIN — Deputy Head of the Directorate of the International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower”.

“Today is a remarkable day because beginning with this Saturday and for three months on the best military bands once again are going to go to the parks of Moscow and make happy the Muscovites and guests of the capital. I want to thank for this opportunity the Government of Moscow which opened the gates of parks and gardens, and the „Spasskaya Tower“ Festival Directorate which for the second year in a row is realizing this wonderful project”, highlighted Timofey Mayakin.

The event continued with the performance of the Combined Brass Band comprising all three military music groups. The concert program was complemented by thirty dancing pairs — participants of the “Moscow’s Longevity” program realized by Cultural Centers of the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow.

The permanent participant and headliner of the International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower” the Band of the Moscow Military Music College named after Lieutenant General Valery Khalilov closed this wonderful feast by staging a separate performance in front of the numerous viewers.

“From this day on the best military music bands of the Moscow garrison are going to perform on the best venues of Moscow and the „Spasskaya Tower“ Festival on Red Square starting August 24 and lasting till September 2 will be the culmination. The realization of this program has become possible due to the support of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation through the Military Music Service as well as the personal support of the Mayor of Moscow and Government of Moscow. We invite the Muscovites and guests of the capital to visit these concerts and guarantee them excellent mood. Our bands will manage to do this despite of the weather”, stressed Vladimir Doronkin.

During the summer season wind music will be heard in the Alexander Garden and 12 parks and gardens of the capital: Gorky Park, Victory Park on Poklonnay Hill, Sokol’niki, Ermitazh Garden, Perovskiy, Babushkinskiy and Izmailovskiy parks, Usadba Vorontsovo, Bauman Garden, Krasnaya Presnya park, Kuzminki and Zaryadye. The Muscovites and guests of the capital will have an opportunity to listen to popular compositions of different genres from classical to rock performed by the military bands absolutely free of charge.

“Today we all have witnessed the birth of a new tradition right in the heart of our capital. Last year for the first time this program of the „Spasskaya Tower“ Festival stepped out to Moscow’s parks. And it was so well-received by the Muscovites and guests of the capital that the Festival Directorate, the Government and Mayor of Moscow decided to continue this project. I want to congratulate and wish all of you wonderful emotions. Be in love with Moscow and admire the art”, told Vladimir Filippov.

This year’s “Military Bands in the Parks” program will be brightened up by the performance of dancing pairs — participants of the “Moscow’s Longevity” program realized by Cultural Centers of the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow.

Another feature of this year’s Program is the participation of volunteers from the Moscow’s Cultural Center “Park Novoslobodskiy”.
