Go back

The 2019 Horse Riding Arena of the Twelfth Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival will welcome the Brass Band of the Tuva Republic Government. The debutant of this year’s run will present a unique show featuring old-times traditions of performing while riding a mount. Audiences of the Festival may watch these performances on 26, 27 and 28 of August.

Having no peers in Russia, the brass band is regarded the heir of the Tuva People’s Revolutionary Army Band that was created back in 1929 and existed for nearly 15 years.

The modern band was established in March 2008 following the order of Mr. Sholban Kara-ool, Head of the Government of the Republic of Tyva, by Timur Dulush, Honored Artist of the Tuva Republic and prize-winner of various international contests. It features students and graduates of the Kyzyl College of Arts named after Chyrgal-oola and the East-Siberian State Academy of Culture and Arts. Besides, it is a member of the East European Brass Band Association of the World Brass Band and Ensemble Association (WASBE).

The band’s repertoire is very versatile ranging from classical and traditional music pieces to popular, jazz and even hip-hop compositions. The group is also known for performing the cham dance, a lively masked and costumed dance associated with Buddhism. Less frequently, it may features pantomime and small dialogues. The cham dance is considered a form of meditation and an offering to the gods.

Sofia Kara-ool-Dulush is the leading singer of the ensemble. Her unique voice of lyric and dramatic soprano brings brand new colors and tones to every performance of the band. She holds the title of the People’s Artist of the Tyva Republic. Nachyn Choreve is the second singer in the ensemble.

No political, social or cultural event held in the republic could lack a performance by the Brass Band of the Government of the Tyva Republic. The band successfully represents its traditional music culture both at national and international festivals winning the audiences of Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, China, Mongolia and Taiwan.

Dulush Artur Dyrtyk-oolovich is Director of the Band while Salchak Sayan Kalbak-oolovich is the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director.
