Bicycle Showband Crescendo from the Netherlands will give its first ever performance in the Red Square

Go back

The Dutch band will perform in the central square of Moscow within the main program of the International Military Music Festival Spasskaya Tower — 2018.

The cycling showband Crescendo, like many other bands of that kind, started just as a village music group in 1922. In 1960, the Crescendo transformed to a marching showband. As time went on, the instrumentation was becoming more diverse — it comprised not only wind, but also percussion instruments.

In 1973, two of the Crescendo members conceived and brought to life the idea of performing on bicycles, and thus turned the group into the internationally known bicycle showband. The performance is combined with dismounted intermezzo, and the visitors can enjoy a gorgeous and unforgettable show.

Today the showband is a permanent participant of various marches and ceremonies both in the Netherlands and outside its boundaries. Every four years the Crescendo band participates in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (the Netherlands), where it competes with other bands from all over the world and often becomes the winner. The musicians brought their performances to France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Romania, Sweden, Great Britain, Malaysia, Turkey, and China, took part in International Musikparade in Germany, and had eight performing tours in Japan.

It is the first time that the Bicycle Showband Crescendo will participate in the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival. In 2013, the Netherlands was represented at the Festival by the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
