Go back

This year the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo will welcome among its participants a military band from Turkey. Founded back in the times of the Ottoman Empire, the Turkish Armed Forces Armoni Band will have the honor to represent their centuries old music traditions on Red Square.

Turkish Armed Forces Armoni Band is one of the oldest music institutions of Turkey. It was formed in 1826 following the order of Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II. Consisting of three performing groups, the band is known for its multifunctional character, a capability that enables it to perform either as a marching band in ceremonies or as a concert band.

Main repertoire of the band includes some of the world’s best classical music pieces and symphonic compositions, as well as national and foreign marches. Armoni Band is actively engaged in development and popularization of western music in Turkey.

The band actively tours both in Turkey and around the world. It has been part of various music events held in Afghanistan, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Kosovo, Netherlands, Malesia, Romania, Russia, UK and US. The ensemble is a frequent guest of various TV and radio shows and has eight CD records.

Colonel Murat İҫli has been ahead of the band since 2017. Born in 1972 in Tarsus, he began his music path by entering the Military Music School and then the Ankara State Conservatory at Hacettepe University where he studied mastership and orchestration as well as tuba and trombone. Graduating with the highest degree, he was assigned as the band commander first in Bursa and then in Hakkari. He as well worked as a tuba teacher at the Military Music School. From 2009 to 2012 he was the band commander of military schools of Balıkesir. From 2012 till 2017 he carried out a duty as the Commander of the Mehteran Unit within the Military Museum and the Culture Center Command of the General Staff in Istanbul. In 2017 as a commander of the Mehteran Unit he took part in the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival.
