From August 23 till September 1 Moscow’s Red Square will be hosting the Twelfth Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival.

Each year the Directorate of the Festival comes up with a very special list of participants shooting for not repeating itself. This year is not an exception as meetings with a plethora of new and remarkable ensembles await all the guests of our wonderful celebration of military music. Thus, for the first time ever the 2019 Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival will feature the Band of the Azerbaijan Higher Military School named after Heydar Aliyev.

The band was formed on February 15, 1992 on the basis of Baku Higher Combined-Arms Command School. Since then it has become one of the leading ensembles of the Ministry of Defense of the Azerbaijan Republic. It includes 52 musicians and is headed by Colonel Aliyev Ehtibar Magsud oglu.

Major Mamedzade Fariz Mirali oglu is the conductor and director of the ensemble. A graduated saxophonist, he has greatly influenced the band’s repertoire with a focus on jazz and popular compositions.

Speaking of his impressions about the Spasskaya Tower Festival, Major Mamedzade Fariz Mirali oglu noted: “I’ve always been keeping a close eye on the Festival. Excellent military bands, exceptional skills of participants as well as every tiny detail of the organization alone attract me as a musician. The repertoire of our band is very versatile and we hope that the guests of this year Festival will fancy it ”.

The Band of the Azerbaijan Higher Military School is a permanent participant of various official state and solemn events held in Baku. Besides, it has repeatedly taken part in different Azerbaijani TV shows.

Our guests from Azerbaijan have already unveiled a little secret about their program for the Festival revealing that it will include Muslim Magomaev’s songs.
