Wind Music and War Years Songs Marked Another Lovely Summer Weekend in Moscow

Go back

This Saturday, June 22, Moscow parks hosted as many as two concerts of the Military Bands in the City Parks project. In the Lublino Estate Museum and Park the Band of the Moscow Higher Military Command College honored the Day of Remembrance and Grief, while the Combined Band of the Alabino Military Garrison performed at Fili Park.

On June 22 Russia honors the Day of Remembrance and Grief, marking one of the most tragic days in the country’s history when back in 1941 the Nazi Germany launched its offensive against the Soviet Union. Thus, this weekend’s participants of the Military Bands in the City Parks decided to focus on the war-years songs and compositions that for sure echo in the heart of every Russian citizen and family.

The solemn yet festive atmosphere of the day was accentuated by military marches and compositions, lyric waltzes and frontline songs. In assembling their programs, the musicians from the Moscow Higher Military Command College and Alabino Military Garrison aimed to remind the audiences that it was our collective responsibility as the younger generation to safeguard the memories and truth about the Great Patriotic War.

“Today, June 22, marks the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, followed by several years of hardships, struggles, hope, and music. Back in time all these songs and compositions performed both on stage concert halls and in frontline trenches helped boost the army’s and nation’s morale. Nowadays, they help us preserve the memory of our Great Victory”, noted Guard Captain Evgeniy Kuznetsov.

“We are happy to stage our debut performance on this important day”, noted Lieutenant Ilya Filatov, member of the Combined Band of the Alabino Military Garrison. “And we are glad to be part of this splendid project that brings together such great and responsive audiences”, he added.

However, the day did not solely revolve around grief and sorrow. A mix of popular Soviet action and animation film soundtracks infused it with upbeat vibes, upbeat feelings and cherished moments.

Both military bands provided guests and residents of Moscow an opportunity to spend this beautiful sunny summer Saturday enjoying quality music performed by high-end professionals, securing tremendous success.

With the ongoing support of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Organizing Committee of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo continues its efforts to revive one of the most charming traditions of the past, with military bands performing in parks and gardens, streets and alleys, and other iconic spots in Moscow and its environs.

Throughout the summer, enchanting wind melodies will engulf parks and gardens in Moscow and its environs, paving the way for the Sixteenth Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo that will unfold on Red Square from August 23 to September 1.
