Featuring Delicate Waltzes, Poignant Songs, and one of the Oldest Military Music Ensembles in Russia

Go back

This Saturday, June 15, the Military Bands in the City Parks project treated its audiences to another spectacular performance. It was the turn of Moscow’s 50 Years of October Park to welcome the Military Band of the Central Orsha-Khingan District of the National Guard Forces of Russia (awarded Orders of Zhukov and Red Banner). One of the oldest music ensembles of Russia, it showcased a program combining classical, iconic and popular pieces.

The band marked its centennial last year. Max Kyuss, a prominent Russian and Soviet musician and author who composed the world-famous Amur Waves waltz, was one of the ensemble’s first leaders. What a perfect piece to start the performance, thought the musicians. That day, Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Abdulaev, Head of the Military Band Service of the National Guard Forces’ Central District, was in charge of the band. He shared the floor with the ensemble’s master, Major Arslan Ryskulov.

Similar to a century ago, the lineup of the ensemble still comprises highly skilled and talented musicians. Maybe you have heard about Djonri Zantaraya, the guy who soared to fame in Russia’s Voice. The Kids TV show. The soloist is currently serving in the Military Band of the National Guard Forces’ Central District.

The weekend was filled with popular songs, lively medleys and vibrant marches. The meticulously crafted program wowed the audiences, and even the pickiest guests were able to find something they liked.

“When it comes to the Military Bands in the City Parks project, we are not rookies at all. We do know that folks always appreciate good tunes. Thus, we are happy to show them a whole variety of our music heritage. Thank you all for such an atmosphere and we are looking forward to seeing you again”, noted Major Arslan Ryskulov.

With the ongoing support of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Organizing Committee of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo continues its efforts to revive one of the most charming traditions of the past, with military bands performing in parks and gardens, streets and alleys, and other iconic spots in Moscow and its environs.

Throughout the summer, enchanting wind melodies will engulf parks and gardens in Moscow and its environs, paving the way for the Sixteenth Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo that will unfold on Red Square from August 23 to September 1.
