Participants of the Festival Will Perform Beneath the Main Cathedral of the Russian Armed Forces

This Sunday, September 6, all the fans and admirers of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival will have a unique opportunity to watch online the Festival evening show unfolding on the Sobornaya (Cathedral) Square of the Main Cathedral of the Russian Armed Forces.

The organizers of the Spasskaya Tower Festival have prepared a surprise. The Festival Directorate together with the Russian Ministry of Defense will stream online the thirteenth Spasskaya Tower Festival production on the social media and official websites of the Spasskaya Tower Festival and Russian Ministry of Defense.

The Central Band of the Border Guard Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation will open the prologue of the Festival. The Russian National Guard Forces will be represented by bands from Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg and Moscow. The Band of the Russian Emergencies Ministry will make its debut on the cobblestones of Red Square with a solo performance. The Russian Ministry of Defense will be represented by the Central Band of the Navy named after Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, the Military Band (of the Moscow Garrison) and the Honor Guard of the 154 Preobrazhensky. Among the debutants of the 2020 production will be the Combined Band of the Russian Airborne Forces that will perform together with the Song and Dance Company of the Russian Airborne Forces and Honor Guard Cadet Unit of the Ryazan Airborne Command Higher School named after Army General Margelov. The thirteenth Festival run won’t definitely lack the audiences’ favorites including the Central Military Band of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Band of the Moscow Military Music College named after Lieutenant General Valery Khalilov together with the Girl Drummers Band of the Boarding School for Girls. Evening shows of the Festival will also feature performances by the Kremlin Equestrian School supported by the Moscow Cossack Choir and Kabardinka State Academic Dance Ensemble of the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic.

The choice of venue is symbolic as the leading theme of the Festival production reads as ‘75 Years Since the War Ended’. Situated on the premises of the Patriot Park, the Main Cathedral of the Russian Armed Forces was erected in honour of the Resurrection of Christ, and dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, as well as the military feats of the Russian people in all wars. The construction on the cathedral was completed on 9 May, Victory Day. It was consecrated on June 14, 2020 and made part of the solemn celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. The cathedral complex also includes the Road of Memories Multimedia Museum Gallery. It is 1418 steps long symbolising 1418 days and nights of war. Using the microphotograph technology the gallery’s design is composed of a plethora of photos of those who fought at the Great Patriotic War

  1. List of media representatives specifying full names and surnames, occupied positions and full ID information;
  2. For digital satellite news gathering vehicles (DSNGs) and outside broadcast vans (OB vans) please specify drivers’ details (mane and surname, full ID information), make and license plate of the car.

Patriot Military Patriotic Recreation Park was officially opened on June 16, 2015 and in a relatively short period of time has become a popular holiday destination. Today, the Guerrilla Village military-historical complex, the Military Tactical Games Center, the Multifunctional Firing Center, Museum Site No. 1, the Congress and Exhibition Center are open for visiting. In open-air demonstration sites you can find samples of the Soviet and Russian aviation, armored vehicles, armored materiel and special equipment, as well as a branch of the Park, Central Museum of Armored Vehicles. Every day, objects of the Patriot park are visited by hundreds of Moscow residents and residents of the Moscow region. During major events, the number of guests reaches dozens of thousands, including guests from other subjects of the Russian Federation, as well as from foreign countries. Patriot Park promotes civic spirit education, forms an attractive image of service in the Armed Forces, develops a sense of love and respect for the Motherland.

The diameter of the drum of the main dome is 19.45 meters, symbolizing the year when the Great Patriotic War ended — 1945. The height of the belfry is 75 meters, a reference to the 75 years that passed in 2020 since the end of World War II. The height of the small dome is 14.18 meters — 1418 days and nights hostilities lasted the Great Patriotic War. The church was designed in a monumental Russian style, organically incorporating modern architectural approaches and innovations unique to the Orthodox church creation. The facades of the building are finished with metal, the arches are glazed.
