This famous quote by Alexander Suvorov, prominent Russian military leader, is the best to describe the Third Russian Armed Forces Military Bands Contest that kicked off on Red Square.
The contest features participation of twelve best military bands, finalists of the first qualification round held last year among the members of military districts and fleets. The participants are divided into four groups differing in the number of musicians and instruments. Each group should perform several compositions from the compulsory program and voluntary program that the participants choose by themselves.
“The first day of the contest was great”, shared his opinion Major General Timofey Mayakin, Head of the Military Band Music Service of the Russian Armed Forces – Chief Military Conductor and Music Director of the Spasskaya Tower Festival. “It’s been the first day of the contest. Tomorrow it is going to continue in the Russian Army Central Academic Theater, and on August 31 there will be the gala concert and award ceremony. Three best military bands will get a chance to become part of the last three evening shows of the Spasskaya Tower Festival on August 28, 29 and 30”, added Mr. Maykin.
