Beautiful Tamara Gverdtsiteli, a Rock Band and Splendid Fireworks: All about the Pre-premiere of the Twelfth Spasskaya Tower Festival

Today, August 22, Moscow’s Red Square hosted the pre-premiere show of the Twelfth Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival held especially for Media representatives, friends of the Festival and socially vulnerable categories of people.

The show also saw the presence of the representatives of embassies and defense wings of countries, participants of this year’s production. About three thousand tickets were distributed among educational institutions and institutions taking care of socially vulnerable and physically restricted children. 

Solo with a Bandis the main theme of the Twelfth Spasskaya Tower Festival and each ensemble interpreted it in its unique artistic way presenting the audiences with splendid marching defiles, vibrant dances and world-best music pieces. This evening the cobblestones of Moscow’s Red Square welcomed bands and artistic ensembles of twelve countries, featuring Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, DPR of Korea, Norway, Republic of Korea, Russia, Turkey and Japan, as well as two international groups, the International Celtic Massed Pipes and Drums and the International Celtic Dance Team.  

The pre-premier show was also crowned by performance of wonderful Tamara Gverdtsiteli, People’s Artist of Russian and Georgia and literally the heart and soul of the Festival. Accompanied by the Central Military Band of the Russian Ministry of Defense under the lead of Colonel Sergey Durygin, Head of the Band and Honored Artist of Russia, she performed two songs. Her performance was so sincere and profound that nobody was left untouched. Besides the pre-premiere show, Tamara Gverdtsiteli will take part in the evening shows on August 24, 25 and 29. 

The grand finale of this evening show saw the performance of the Festival’s participants combined band led by Major General Timofey Mayakin, Head of the Military Band Music Service of the Russian Armed Forces – Chief Military Conductor and Music Director of the Festival, and the magnificent fireworks.  

The official opening of the Twelfth Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival is marked for August 23. The Festival itself will last till September 1, with the last day of the Festival offering another daytime show. 

Meanwhile, Muscovites and guests of the capital will have an opportunity to witness the participants of this year’s production on VDNH (August 24) as well as in seven parks and five railway stations of Moscow (August 31).

Throughout the Festival, the Spasskaya Tower horse riding arena will also feature a plethora of activities, including performances by the Kremlin Equestrian School, Cavalry Escort of the Presidential Regiment and Equestrian Band of the Tuva Republic Government.
