The Spasskaya Tower Official Stamp Was Cancelled on Red Square

Go back

August 22, Moscow’s Red Square hosted the solemn cancellation ceremony of the Spasskaya Tower Official stamp.

Depicting the Kremlin’s Spasskaya Tower, St. Basil’s Cathedral and the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival logo, the stamp represents the joint work of the Festival’s Directorate and Russian Post FSUE. With 156 thousand units issued, the stamp will be sold all across Russia. To complement the stamp the special cancellation bar and the first day of issue cover were also made.

The postage stamp cancellation ceremony featured Mr. Sergey Smirnov, Head of the Spasskaya Tower Festival Directorate, and Mr. Yaroslav Mandron, Russian Post FSUE Deputy Director General on postage business and social services.

They signed four first day of issue covers and defaced the stamp with the special cancellation bar. It’s worth noting, that philatelists highly rate such stamps as the cancel is valid only one day.

They also canceled four unmarked postcards dedicated to the Spasskaya Tower Festival depicting the President’s Band and the Honor Guard of the Moscow Kremlin Commandant’s Service of the Federal Guard Service of the Russian Federation.

Mr. Mandron highlighted that it was the honor for the Russian Post to become partner of the Spasskaya Tower Festival. “Last year we presented a special collectable postcard and this year we’ve come out with the Festival’s stamp”, he said.

Mr. Smirnov thanked Mr. Mandron for the cooperation, telling the media that the following year they would present even more striking results of the cooperation.

This year Russian Post has issued three different collectable postcards that you may absolutely for free get at the Russian Post pavilion on Red Square and send to the addressee. The pavilion will be open from August 23 to September 1.
