Go back

Today, August 26, the third show of the Eleventh Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival was held on Red Square. And we continue telling about performances of the Festival’s participants.

For the first time in the Festival’s history the Military Band of the Myanmar Armed Forces combining military music units of the Army, Navy and Air Force stepped onto Red Square. Dressed in dazzling white uniform musicians marched along the cobblestone to the sounds of the brave military march. Performing marches they showed the audience their art of realignment and division into groups. In the finale of their performance musicians performed Myanmar music composed for the song.

The Military Band of the Royal Guard of Oman was also among the debutants of this year Festival. Musician who will perform in Moscow have been selected from four Band Squadrons. Speaking about the instruments, the band includes the winds, percussions and pipes. It is the pipes that give the music performed by the band the special charm.

From the very beginning the Omanis stated the Russian theme. The band stepped onto the cobblestone to the sounds of Katusha followed by vibrant dance composition. Right at this moment the band was joined by members of the Special Arts Troup. Men wearing white jellabiyas and turbans performed the dance with sabres followed by the traditional dance performed by guests at a Bedouin wedding. This time the men were joined by women in traditional black dresses. Adjourning their performance Omani musicians returned to Russian music playing Kalinka with pipes adding a special freshness to it.

The combined band uniting all the bands participating in the Festival under the lead of Colonel Timofey Mayakin, Head of the Military Music Band Service of the Russian Armed Forces – Chief Military Conductor and Music Director of the Spasskaya Tower Festival performed at the grand finale of the third show. Musicians performed the Officers’ Ball potpourri of well-known Russian and foreign composers, including Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Dunaevsky, Sviridov, Frenkel, Nikitin, Strauss and others. The final accord adjourning the show was Tchaikovsky Overture “1812”. As usual the show finished with grandiose fireworks.
