During the Great Patriotic War military bands were frequently used in battles for setting up active disguise and distracting enemy’s attention to achieve tactical successes through staged and distracting activities.

Thus, the Band of the 409^th Kirovograd Rifle Division of the Bogdan Khmelnitsky Order led by their bandmaster Captain v. Reshetov was performing on the front edge of the division left flank, distracting the enemy, while the right flank was rushing into attack.
