The Military Exemplary Band of the Honor Guard
Major Pavel Gernets, Head of the Band.
Captain Vladimir Petrov, Conductor.
The band, established more than 50 years ago, is the main ensemble accompanying the ritual of the Honor Guard, which meets heads of official governmental and military delegations of foreign states. The Ceremony is held together with a battalion of the Honor Guard of the 154 Preobrazhensky Regiment.
Many major monuments and memorials of the country had their opening ceremonies performed to the sound of the band, including the grand opening after renovation of the nationwide memorial of military glory, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in the presence of the Russian President in 2010 in the Aleksandrovsky Garden. The band also performed at the opening ceremony of the 1980 Olympic Games and welcomed the world’s first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin back to earth from his journey in outer space. It provided musical accompaniment for the Yalta and Potsdam conferences attended by heads of ally states of the USSR, the USA, the UK, as well as many other events.
