The Zimbabwe Defence Forces Band

Zimbabwe
2025

Director for joint training at the Zimbabwe Defence Force headquarters, head of the delegation — group captain Caston Chisango Dengu.

Director of music of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces — Major Simeon Munsaka.

Head of the band — lieutenant Admire Rutendo Mutonono.

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces Band stands as an illustrious emblem of national unity and cultural identity. The history of the ensemble roots back to the early 1980s when Zimbabwe attained its hard-worn independence from colonial rule. Having embarked on this journey the country began forming its national institution with the focus on the defence forces, especially the Zimbabwe National Army and Air Force of Zimbabwe. Initially the two services had seperate military bands. However, in 2015 they were amalgamated into a joint ensemble, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Band, which in itself was a huge step forward in advancing the culture of military music within the country.

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces Band participates in key national events such as celebrations of the Independence Day, Heroes Day, and Defence Forces Day. The ensemble muscians cover the arrival and departure ceremonies of heads of foreign states and governments, aas well as Guards of Honor rituals.
