Tenochtitlan Folklore Dancing Company and Jaguares de la Tamayo Marching Band
In 2011 Mexico was represented by two artistic groups being Tenochtitlan Dancing Company and Jaguares de la Tamayo Marching Band. Especially created for the Spasskaya Tower Festival, the group with more than 120 artists has acquainted the Festival’s audiences with traditional Mexican music (mariachi) and dances. Steppin on the cobblestones of Red Square wearing bright costumes and sombreros, they managed to bring the unique and exotic atmosphere of their country in the heart of Moscow.
Jaguares de la Tamayo Marching Band
Founded in 1991 by Leonardo Sorcia Valerio, Jaguares de la Tamayo Marching Band is currently based at the Jorge L. Tamayo Secondary School and numbers 250 music students.
Jaguares are very popular in Mexico. They take part in various national and international contests, military parades and carnivals. The band has successfully been representing Mexican colors all over the world including Germany, Spain, France and Republic of Korea. Tenochtitlan Folk Dance Company Tenochtitlan arose as an independent artistic association in 1988 in the Mexican city of Puebla under the leadership of Saulo Romero Espinal, a researcher of the Mexican culture.
The Company consists of over 120 dancers, divided in three levels: Child, Amateur and First Company. The cast is composed of music artists from different regions of Mexico, who with passion and professionalism broadcast music and singing, customs and traditions of a multicultural country, combining them with modern choreography. All that requires an iron discipline and physical strength.
The company took part in more than 150 international folklore festivals and contests, and went on more than 60 international tours to Germany, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Egypt, Chile and the USA, getting numerous awards and recognition.
