She Huo Cultural Troupe of Xi’an
She Huo Cultural Troupe consists of both of professional and amateur artists coming from four different cities of the Shaanxi province: Xi’an (the capital city of the Province, twin city to Edinburgh), Bao-ji, Han-cheng and Zi-chang. Their age span from 19 year’s old the youngest to 61 the oldest.
Shaanxi is a major province in West China, one of the birthplaces of the Chinese civilization. She Huo is folk art performance given on traditional or religious festivals, especially popular in the rural areas. “She&daquo; is the God of Earth, and “Huo” (fire) is meant to drive away the evil spirit.
A centuries-old tradition, largely protected by the Chinese government as the national intangible cultural heritage, Shaanxi She-Huo has managed to maintain a fresh image. Through the distinctive marching drums, bamboo horses, stilts, ancient battle ships and flags, scenes of the ancient warriors’ drilling and ritual ceremonies are artistically revitalized. The show is not only the respect to the ancestors, but also the embodiment of people’s endless pursuit of happiness, harmony and peace.
