The Shady Glen Highland Dance School
Maria Zotko, Director.
Since its foundation in 2005 the Shady Glen Highland Dance School has overcome a long way growing from an amateur dance studio into a professional school known both in Russia and abroad. Today the school is the only dance group from the CIS countries participating at international highland sports dancing competitions.
Thus members of the Shady Glen can always be seen taking part in various highland dancing competitions, championships and festivals held in Scotland, Belgium and France and regularly becoming prize winners.
Since 2006 following the Shady Glen initiative Moscow has been hosting the annual Highland Culture Festival aiming at introducing Scotland’s dance and music culture to the Russian audience.
The Shady Glen Highland Dance School had already been part of the Spasskaya Tower Festival. In 2012 they performed along the Crossed Swords Pipes and Drums and in 2013 together with the Massed Pipes and Drums featuring bands of the 51st Highland Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, 1st Royal Tank Regiment, Officers Training Corps of Scotland’s universities and East Lothian pride.
