The Second Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles Pipes and Drums
The King’s Royal Rifles was formed in 1994 by amalgamating 2nd, 6th, 7th and 10th Royal Gurkha Rifles, and at present consists of two battalions. Gurkhas, natives of the Himalayan Mountains in Nepal, were first inducted in military service in 1815 by the British East India Company. About 200,000 Gurkhas fought for Britain in the two World Wars. The band wears the Douglas tartan.
The Pipes and Drums of the 2nd Battalion of King’s own Gurkha Rifles have performed at many ceremonial events, including the coronation of Elizabeth II and Edinburgh Military Tattoo, as well as have represented the British Army in many countries of the world.
