The Israel Defense Force Band
Major Noam Inbar, Music Director and Chief Conductor.
Formed in 1948, with the establishment of the state of Israel and its Defense Forces, the official ceremonial band of the Israel Defense Forces is the only military wind ensemble in the country.
Its primary mission is to perform at military events and welcoming ceremonies for foreign leaders and delegations during their official visits.
Unlike most other military bands in the world, members of the Israel Defense Force Band are young musicians aged 18–21 serving their compulsory military duty.
The ensemble has brass, woodwind and percussion instruments, as well as a full rhythm section and vocalists. It focuses on Israeli music and is committed to preserving national music traditions performing both old and contemporary Hebrew songs. Alongside this, its repertoire features a variety of genres, from light classical music, through jazz and up to modern international pop. The band performs throughout the whole country and tours outside Israel as well.
Many of the Israel Defense Force Band’s alumni hold senior positions in music in Israel and abroad.
