The Combined Flag Bearers Groups

Sbandieratori di Sansepolkro

The flag bearers (Sbandieratori) from Sansepolkro are a group of performers, oldest in its way in Italy, existing as an association already for more than half a century.

Sbandieratori appear in the dress of XV century and perform on trumpets and drums music of that era, when Italian architects erected walls, towers, palaces and cathedrals of the Moscow Kremlin.

The flag bearers of Sansepolkro, famous all over Italy and abroad, took part in many celebrations and festivals, including in USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, China, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay and Singapore and in most of the countries in Europe. The Group regularly appears on the largest TV channels of the world, including BBC, ABC, CBS and RAI.

Sbandieratori di Gubbio

The group of flag bearers from Gubbio was founded in 1969 by the Society of Arbalesters with the purpose of reviving and preserving the age old tradition of arbalester tourneys, being held in Gubbio on the last Sunday of May, and in Sansepolkro — in September.

The Group strives to immortalize the old “play of flags” in its ethical sense, including by training youth at the professional trainings, courses on history, graphic arts and folklore.

The flag bearers were irreplaceable in the development of tourism and maintenance of contacts with Italian community abroad, strengthening relation with the country of their origin on the basis of regular cooperation. They carry the banner of peace and friendship all over the world.

Sbandieratori di Arezzo

Sbandieratori di Arezzo is an independent organization, formed in 1960 to take part in the Saracen Tournament, a festival revived from the middle age Arezzo. The groups' costumes were fabricated, based on paintings by Piero de la Francesca (XV century), using the colours and heraldry of urban quarters.

Sbandieratori Arezzo was one of the first to revive the art of “flag game” and converted it into a dynamic and unforgettable show. Sbandieratori bought fame to Arezzo all over the world, by conducting 1300 performances, including in the presence of the Queen of Great Britain, Emperor of Japan and Heads of other governments. They have often represented their city and country at the Olympic Games, football World Cups and other types of sports, as well as at the festivals in Spain, France, Japan and the United States.
