The Crossed Swords Pipe and Drum Band

European Union
2010 — 2012

The Crossed Swords Pipes and Drums

David Johnston, Music Director.

The word combination crossed swords in the title of the band popped up thanks to the gallant badge of Field Marshall Montgomery’s 21st Army Group which has represented the British Army in Germany since World War II. In honour of their founder, the Band proudly wears the MacDonnell of Keppoch tartan.

The pipes and drums are vigorously getting popular all-around mainland Europe particularly in Germany where influence of the Celtic culture is quite strong as Scottish and Irish regiments were garrisoned there over many years. The Crossed Swords Pipes and Drums preserve and keep loyal to the old-time music traditions being a reminder of the bright presence of the British Army in the German soil.

David Johnston, Music Director of the Crossed Swords Pipes and Drums, is known as the most experienced piper of the mainland Europe.

The Crossed Swords musicians frequently take part in various military tattoos. Thus, the band made a tremendous success at the 2011 Edinburgh Royal Tattoo. And now the Crossed Swords are happy to return to Moscow to perform at the 2012 Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival.
