The Singapore Armed Forces Central Band

Singapore
2012

The Singapore Armed Forces Central Band

Captain Tan Aik Kee Ken Steven, Chief Conductor.

The Singapore Armed Forces Central Band is the leading musical group of the Singapore Armed Forces featuring high-end professional musicians and military personnel with music academic background.
The band supports military parades and contributes to the prestige of many official ceremonies, and is actively engaged in concert activities. The ensemble is frequently asked to represent the country abroad in military tattoos, thus strengthening the relations with other countries.
At the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo the Singapore Armed Forces Central Band is going to perform together with the Music Drama Company and Marching Unit.

The Music Drama Company of the Singapore Armed Forces was founded in 1973 to lift up the spirits of the Singapore soldiers and officers through dance and music. Little by little the company members got recognition as one of the leaders of the country’s Armed Forces. In 1992 the company was complemented by a choir, Chinese and sting groups. That allowed it to perform at chief national ceremonies as well as abroad.

Formed back in 1984 the Marching Unit features some of the best military men of the Singapore Armed Forces. Moving as precisely and synchronously as a clock, they perform the most sophisticated arm drills using the Mark 4 rifles of the WWI times. These rifles are 1,2 meters long and weigh about 5 kilos.
Enjoying great popularity, the unit frequently supports the National Day Parade and takes part in the monthly change of guard ceremony at the Istana Negara Royal Palace, the official residence of the Singapore President.
