The First Ever Military Music Festival in Greek History is to Be Held in Athens!

Go back

The International Military Tattoo “Amfionia” is to be held in Athens sponsored by the International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower”.

The major performances of the Festival are going to be held on May 18 and 19 in the very heart of Athens in the historical place in front of the Zappeion.

The festival is named after the ancient Thebes hero Amphion who in the ancient Greek mythology is described as a fabulous musician and defender of the ancient city. Amphion has created the modern seven-stringed lyre the melody of which gathered together citizens, animals and trees. In the moments of danger when Thebes were to be attacked by its enemies all the surrounding rocks on hearing Amphion’s lyre moved closer to the city and erected its walls.

Among the participants of the first Athens Military Tattoo are the permanent participants of Moscow’s Festival “Spasskaya Tower”: the Military Band of the National Guard Forces of the Russian Federation, the President’s Band of the State Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Moscow Cossack Choir as well as the one and only girl drummers from the “Yerevan Drums” group (Armenia), the Historical group of the Street Flagwavers from Cori (Italy), the Athens Area Children’s Choir (Greece), the world’s famous pianist, composer, singer Stefanos Korkolis and the singer Sofia Manusaki. All in all, more than 300 unique artists are expected to stage their performances during the two days of the Festival.

The Festival is going to be unique due to the combination of classical, traditional, popular and rock music with spectacular parades, exceptional choreography, phantasmagoric lightning and thousands of fireworks.
