Last Saturday, July 27, the Military Bands in the City Parks went west and paid a visit to Moscow’s Fili Park. Carried out by the Spasskaya Tower Festival Directorate with the support of the Russian Ministry of Defense and Moscow’s Department of Culture, this weekend’s program featured the Band of the Dzerzhinsky Special Task Independent Division of the Russian National Guard Forces.
Led by Major Dmitry Proshin, Head of the Division’s Band Music Service, it performed a big variety of music pieces including classical wind marches as well as popular songs and melodies. World’s famous Budapest and Salute of Moscow marches by Semen Tchernetsky, Subboteya and Russian Fantasy by Alexander Khalilov, war years’ songs and songs about Moscow were among the compositions performed by the band that evening. As a matter of a longstanding tradition, the end of the concert crowned Agapkin’s Farewell of Slavianka, the international music symbol of Russia.
With a sunny day in full swing by 5 o’clock Fili Park was packed up with people. Many of them came to listen to the beautiful music performed by the Band of the National Guard Forces. Throughout the concert the audience was so responsive that every single melody and song was received with thundering applause.
