The second day of the Spasskaya Tower Children and Youth Wind Bands Festival commenced on Red Square on Tuesday, August 26. With the long-standing support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the event welcomed young musicians from Moscow and Orel.
The lineup of the 2025 festival comprises children and youth ensembles that won the online qualifying round.
Among this year’s winners was the Concert Wind Band of the Rikhter Children School of Arts from Moscow. Young talents treated the stands to an array of music pieces, including Valery Khalilov’s ‘A Great Country Forever’ which was composed in 2004.
Orchestra soloist Victoria Loktyushkina said this was her first time taking part in an event of this scale. "I have been a member of the orchestra for about a year, and I was incredibly happy when I found out that I would already perform on Red Square. It is a great honor”, shared her emotions the young artist.
To the ovations of the audiences, the children happily left the cobblestones and passed the floor to the Haydn-Band Wind Ensemble of the Joseph Haydn Moscow Music School. And sounds of strict military marches and flowy tunes engulfed Red Square.
The Children Wind Band of the Moscow School N 64 of Moscow turned out to be the youngest participant of the Children and Youth Festival, as they were formed just a year ago, in September of 2024. The band decided to pay homage to Moscow, the best city on Earth. Despite the anxiety, the young artists did their best, showing all the variety of music styles and skills.
The ‘Prometey’ Wind Band from Orel was awarded the honor to wrap up the festival’s second day. Musicians have put together a versatile program featuring both Russian popular folk songs and contemporary music pieces.
This year the ninth Spasskaya Tower Children and Youth Wind Bands Festival traditionally unfolds on Moscow’s Red Square between August 25 and 27 within the seventeenth run of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo. The Spasskaya Tower Children and Youth Wind Bands Festival goal is to promote the art of military music among youngsters, evoking curiosity in various musical styles and forming a unified culture, as well as revitalizing the youth band movement, defining patriotic ideals and preserving national music traditions.
