Wind Music and War Years Songs Will Mark Another Lovely Summer Weekend in Moscow’s Sokolniki Park

Go back

This Saturday, August 16, it’s the turn of Moscow’s Sokolniki Park to welcome another round of the Military Bands in the City Parks project. The Military Band of the Military University named after Prince Alexander Nevskiy will treat their audiences to a plethora of the public most beloved war-years songs as well as solemn military marches and flowy waltzes.

This time musicians have opted for a program featuring both pieces associated with a classic military band’s performance and popular songs. Everyone coming to Moscow’s Sokolniki park will be able to find something to their preferences, even the youngest guests.

Such popular songs as Smuglyanka, the Blue Handkerchief, the Song Stays with Us and others will give way to brave military marches and lyric waltzes, all arranged with some modern twist.

Hence, we are looking forward to meeting you in Moscow’s Sokolniki Park this Saturday, August 16, at 4 pm (16:00) and spending quality time in the company of some of the best military musicians of the country.

Note that the entrance is absolutely free of charge.

With the ongoing support of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Directorate of the Spasskaya Tower Tattoo continues its efforts to revive one of the most charming traditions of the past featuring military bands performing in parks and gardens, streets and alleys, and other iconic open air sites of Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and now the City of Pskov as well.

The project, in essence, is a series of concerts staged by bands representing Russia’s military and law enforcement agencies, paving the way for the main events of the Spasskaya Tower Festival that this year will unfold on Moscow’s Red Square between August 25 and 31. Bringing together over 1500 artists from all corners of the globe, the Festival will honor the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War and pay tribute to all those valiantly defending their nations.
