The first weekend of July in Saint Petersburg will be marked by charming wind music performed onstage of the Military Bands in the City Parks project that already marks its nine season. The Military Band of the Naval Academy, which bears the name of Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Nikolay Kuznetsov, is regarded as one of Russia’s top artistic teams. Over the years, its musicians have never stopped honing their craft and searching for their distinctive sound and aesthetic. The band’s history is an inherent part of the Naval Academy that traces its origins as far as the 19th century. In the 1950s, the Military Band of the Naval Academy got dissolved, but almost 30 years later, in 1983, it gained a second chance, with Admiral Valentin Ponikarovskiy, Head of the Naval Academy, ordering to
Nowadays the ensemble is regarded as a huge asset to the educational activities carried out within the academy, safeguarding and expanding military music traditions. Musicians are actively engaged in various cultural events carried out in Saint Petersburg. They never miss a single military parade on the Palace Square of the city, and may also be easily spotted among the participants of Russia’s Leading Navy Parade.
At the helm of the Band today is Captain 2nd Rank Dmitriy Misyura. Since 2019 the Military Band of the Naval Academy has taken part in the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo.
Taking place as part of the ninth season of the Military Bands in the City Parks, the concert will once again bring military musicians to the parks and gardens of St Petersburg. This charming tradition of the past has been meticulously revived by the Organizing Committee of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo with the ongoing support of the Russian Ministry of Defense and Moscow Government. In 2024, the project made its debut in the city argued to be the northern capital of Russia, and it was such a success that it was decided to carry it on this year.
