Prepare to Boogie in Your Seat as the Elite Russian Paratroopers Band Joins the 2025 Spasskaya Tower Cast

Go back

This year marks the 95th anniversary of the Airborne Forces of the Russian military, widely known as the VDV Airborne Forces. These elite troops have always been in the vanguard, literally balancing on the razor’s edge. Whether it’s a service unit or an artistic team, the tenacity and wild spirit of the VDV Forces manifests in everything. Hence, prepare to fight hard to keep your feet still as the Combined Band of the Russian Airborne Forces is back on Red Square to stun the crowds.

Joined by the Song and Dance Company of the Russian Airborne Forces, the VDV Combined Band will narrate an emotionally charged music story, seamlessly blending it with precision drill from the Honor Guard Cadet Unit of the Ryazan Airborne Command Higher College named after Army General Margelov.

“Russia attaches major importance to the year of 2025 as it commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War Victory. It was also declared the Year of the Defenders of the Motherland. Besides we, as part of the VDV Forces, celebrate 95 years since the troops formation. Therefore it’s the combination of all these factors that make our 2025 Spasskaya Tower Festival performance particularly important”, told us Lieutenant Colonel Vladislav Tveyrdyi, Chief Conductor and Head of the Song and Dance Company of the Russian Airborne Forces. According to him, the stands will be treated to an unforgettable show inspired by Russia’s paratroopers' courage and some of their best skills and traditions. “Come to witness a perfect synergy of music, traditions and an unbent vibrant spirit of the Airborne Forces brotherhood”, added Lieutenant Colonel Tveyrdyi.

The music part of the future story obviously lies within the VDV Forces Combined Military Band. Their title reads combined as it features some of the best musicians originating from various music ensembles across the airborne and paratrooper units country-wide, following the 10 per each pattern. Being high-end professionals with exceptional talent, they also command outstanding drilling and marching skills. Musicians take part in all major events carried out by the Command at the service level, and may always be spotted among the regular participants of the Victory Day Parade on Red Square.

Meanwhile, the Song and Dance Company of the Russian Airborne Forces will bring along an outburst of energy and dance, setting the cobblestones on fire. Formed in 1936, the group has gone a long artistic way from the Red Army Song and Dance Ensemble of the Kiev Military District to the team we know today. From the early days of war and up to the Great Victory the band served within the regular troops, overcoming the long and hard path from Kiev to Stalingrad first, and then heading straight to Berlin to commemorate the 1945 Soviet Army triumph staging a concert in the footsteps of Reichstag.

Set against the backdrop of the Moscow Kremlin brick walls and towers, the Seventeenth Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo will unfold on Red Square between August 22 and 31. Over 15 hundred artists from all over the globe will gather in the Russian capital to celebrate their shared passion for music. In 2025, our ambitious cutting-edge production pays tribute to the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War Victory and all those who served. Some of the best military and law enforcement artists from Russia and abroad will return to the cobblestones of Red Square. The Spasskaya Tower Military Tattoo enjoys the unwavering organisational and/or financial support of the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture as well as the Moscow Government Department of Culture.
