Formed in 1917, the Moscow Higher Military Command College is one of the oldest military education institutions of Russia. In the Great Patriotic War both its students and officers valiantly defended the capital, fighting in the Battle of Moscow. As for the band, its history is an inherent part of the college’s life and activities. Focused on performing ceremonial duties musicians always accompany military personnel reviews and honor guard mount, as well as take part in the Victory Day Parade on Red Square.
It’s been nine years of continuous efforts undertaken by the Directorate of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo to revive one of the most charming traditions of the past, with military bands performing in parks and gardens, streets and alleys, and other iconic sites of the city. Along the way the project has been enjoying the unwavering support of the Russian Ministry of Defense and Government of Moscow. Last year, the Military Bands in the City Parks expanded its horizons, going as far as St Petersburg.
As such, throughout the summer, enchanting wind melodies now engulf parks and gardens in both Russian capitals, paving the way for the Seventeenth Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo that will unfold on Moscow’s Red Square between August 22 to 31.
