The 2024 Spasskaya Tower Festival Reached Moscow’s VDNH

Go back

This Saturday, August 24, participants of the 2024 Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival performed in Moscow’s VDNH to greet all the guests and residents of Russia’s gorgeous capital.

Two hours of music and vivid dances showcased all the national colors and vibes of the tattoo participants who had traveled to Moscow from Belarus, Venezuela, Egypt, China, Thailand, Turkey and South Africa. The performance unfolded on the esplanade beneath the VDNH main entrance, with crowds gathering to listen and support the artists. People expressed their admiration for the show, noting that it made their weekend happier.

Russia was represented by the Suvorov Cadet Band of the Moscow Military Music College, the all-time favorites of the Spasskaya Tower Military Tattoo and other music festivals both at home and abroad. In 1940, the college’s drumming unit was given the honor to open all military parades on Red Square, with the tradition still kept up today. This time the young musicians decided on a program featuring popular Russian songs and melodies. The performance was a hit, with the crowds singing and dancing, and sounds of standing ovations heard far and wide.

The young musicians were very pleased to perform on VDNH. “Though I’m not a rookie, I am very excited and proud to perform within the Spasskaya Tower Festival program”, shared his emotions one of the members of the Cadet Band. The ensemble always puts in great effort when preparing, and aims to promote patriotism and devotion to the Motherland.

Representing Belarus and its Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Exemplary Band of the Internal Troops received a warm welcome from the Russian people. Crowds were happy to feel a little bit nostalgic when they heard melodies of the Great Patriotic War.

Elena from Nizhniy Novgorod shared that she was extremely fortunate to have had an opportunity to witness such an exceptional performance, as she had never anticipated such an experience.

Another highlight of the day was the performance of the Band of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army who performed a lot of songs originating in Russia, including the world-famous Russian Kalinka.

Meanwhile, Turkey chose an authentic performance with historical context and a folklore vibe.

Russian Kalinka, Smuglyanka and My Moscow sounded completely different when performed by the Military Symphonic Band of Egypt, showing off all their unique artistic skills, style and talent, for sure.

The Great Military Band of the National Bolivarian Armed Forces of Venezuela, the South African Air Force Band and the Benchamatheputhit Phetchaburi School Marching Band from Thailand also wowed the audiences with their vibrant dances and flowy tunes, encompassing everyone in the atmosphere of joy and happiness.

This year the Spasskaya Tower Military Tattoo will unfold on Moscow’s Red Square from August 23 to September 1. Scale, audience and impact wise, the Spasskaya Tower Festival has no par, every year being recognized as the most prominent international cultural event in Russia, as well as being ranked among the world’s best top three military tattoos. It’s being carried out following the Order of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, under the aegis of the Public Council headed by Mr. Alexander Zhukov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and enjoying the long-standing support of the Russian MoD, MFA and Moscow’s Department of Culture.

This year’s Festival is being carried out with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.

Tickets for the Tattoo are available via the Festival official website (www.spasstower.ru) and the Festival’s ticket office on Manezhnaya Square near the 1812 War Museum. The ticket office is open daily, from 12 am to 9 pm.
