Go back

It was due to the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives that the Military Bands in the City Parks project managed to step out of its traditional boundaries, and go to Saint Petersburg, the city regarded as the northern capital of Russia. This Sunday, July 14, the Tauride Garden of Saint Petersburg welcomed the project debut performance staged by the Military Band of the Military Institute of the Logistics Military Academy.

With Major Dmitriy Malkov on the helm, the ensemble has staged an exceptional concert, proving that military musicians can really step out of the box. For the project’s debut musicians’ opted for a program featuring both pieces associated with a classic military band’s performance and popular songs, and they definitely hit the mark.

Everyone coming to the Tauride Garden today was able to find something to their preferences, even the youngest guests. Literally everybody was singing along throughout the whole concert making it a true success. An entire performance featuring a plethora of songs and compositions, flew by in a blink leaving no one untouched.

The audience gave the artists deserved standing ovations and numerous Bravo screams at the end, proving that the debut performance of the Military Bands in the City Parks was a huge hit.

“We are happy to become part of this project, perform onstage of the best Saint Petersburg open air venues, and of course bring joy to our beloved audiences. Military musicians are capable of anything, and our vast repertoire proves it for sure”, noted Major Dmitry Malkov, Head and Conductor of the Band.

With the ongoing support of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, Government of Saint Petersburg and the city governor Alexander Beglov, the Organizing Committee of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo continues its efforts to revive one of the most charming traditions of the past, with military bands performing in parks and gardens, streets and alleys, and other iconic spots in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and the environs.

In 2024, the Military Bands in the City Parks became winner of the second Grant Competition by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, giving the project an opportunity to step out of its traditional boundaries. Now, not only Moscow, but also Saint Petersburg will have a chance to witness some of the best music ensembles of the Russian Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies. Up to late September, military wind bands will stage as many as 22 concerts in both cities.

Throughout the summer, enchanting wind melodies will engulf parks and gardens, paving the way for the Sixteenth Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo that will unfold on Red Square from August 23 to September 1.
