In 2024, the biggest music festival of Russia returns to Moscow’s Red Square. From August 23 to September 1, the Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo will be celebrating the brave defenders of the Motherland. Every nation at least once in history has gone through tough times when no one can afford to turn a blind eye. Instead people rally and willingly stand up for their Homeland’s independence, security and prosperity.
This year’s Festival maxim reads In Honor of the Motherland’s Defenders. Each year the Festival organizers choose a theme allowing them to introduce the audiences at home and abroad to Russia’s rich history, cultural traditions and patriotic values. Thus, the Spasskaya Tower Tattoo aims at arousing interest not just in wind, classical and military music, but also in Russia’s glorious milestone events, with the international participants always adding something unique to this splendid mix of casts, audiences, histories and cultures.
A plethora of outstanding victories, brave deeds, and selfless service manship instances can be found in the achievement records of both Russia and those countries coming this year to Moscow. These events have always been reflected in arts, dance and music, for sure.
“We have never forgotten the feats of our heroes who have valiantly defended our Motherland throughout its history, be it in the times of the Ancient Russian state, in the epoch of Peter the Great, during the French invasion of Russia in 1812, the First and Second World Wars as well as in the armed conflicts in Afghanistan and the Chechen Republic or current special military operation in Ukraine. Today Russia’s Armed Forces welcome among its ranks those who are bravely filling in their ancestors’ shoes. However, defending one’s Motherland is not only about fighting on the frontlines. We should not forget about all the people in the rears, including medical personnel, volunteers, defense industry workers and many others. All the Spasskaya Tower Festival evening shows will reflect its leading maxim. It’s worth noting that some of the Russian military ensembles taking part in the Festival have been to the special military operation zone. They have seen everything and know firsthand about the current events. Meanwhile, our foreign guests will have a chance to tell the stories of their own”, said Major General Timofey Mayakin, Music Director of the Spasskaya Tower Festival and Head of the Military Band Service of the Russian Armed Forces.
Different music sketches will unfold on the cobblestones of Red Square. Beneath the Moscow Kremlin ancient walls Russian and foreign ensembles will show their artistry portraying those people who selflessly defended the country in the darkest of times.
The Spasskaya Tower Festival became a winner of the 2023 special grant competition by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
