We grieve… We love… We remember…

Go back

On January 30, Lieutenant General Valery Khalilov, first Music Director of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival and Peoples Artist of Russia, would have turned 70.

Today we honour the memory of a great man, whose talent, extraordinary mind, and sincere love for his work will linger in our hearts and memory forever.

Music was the essence of Valery Khalilov’s life. Born to a family of military conductors, he entered the world of music at the age of four. Later he graduated from the Moscow Military Music School (today known as College) and was enrolled at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory to become a military conductor.

He had covered a long way, starting as the conductor of the Band of the Pushkin Radio Electronics Higher Military School of the Air Defense Forces, and eventually becoming the Head of the Military Band Service of the Russian Armed Forces — Chief Military Conductor (2002–2016).

Valery Khalilov tragically died in a Tu-154 plane crash on the night of December 25, 2016.

We grieve…
We love…
We remember…
