Go back

Military musicians have started preparations for the Great Patriotic War Victory Parade. Led by Major General Timofey Mayakin, Head of the Military Band Service of the Russian Armed Forces — Chief Military Conductor and Music Director of the Spasskaya Tower Festival, the rehearsals are taking place at the Alabino military training ground near Moscow.

Following a long-standing tradition, a combined military band has always been responsible for music accompaniment of every Victory Parade unfolding on Red Square. This year forty military bands from the Russian Armed Forces and other LEAs will become part of the combined music ensemble.

“Military musicians have started their routine training for the Victory Parade that will take place on Moscow’s Red Square as part of the 76th Great Patriotic War Victory celebrations. On Monday, April 5, both troops and musicians of the combined band participated in the parade’s third big rehearsal at the Alabino military training facility, while the day before a special commission had tested musicians’ knowledge of the parade repertoire. The Combined Band must be precise as a perfectly tuned clockwork. Meanwhile, we are responsible for making these nine hundred musicians perform as one, impeccably and above reproach. Now the rehearsals will be held three times a week following a carefully elaborated schedule “, told Major General Timofey Mayakin, Chief Military Conductor.

The Combined Band of this year’s Victory Parade will as usual feature some of the most prominent participants of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival, including the Central Military Band of the Russian MoD, Central Band of the Russian Navy named after Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, combined bands of the National Guard Forces and Russian Emergencies Ministry, Military Band of the Ryazan Airborne Forces College as well as military music units of other Russia’s military educational institutions and LEAs.
