The Long-Awaited Lines from the Battlefield

Go back

75 Years Since the War End, that’s the leading motto of the 2020 Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival. It’s well established that military music has always played crucial role in the Russian army, embodying its extraordinary might, solidifying bravery, resilience and never-ever defeated spirit of Russia’s people. Thus, the Directorate of the Spasskaya Tower Festival would like to learn more about musicians and the path they had to overcome in those darkest hours of war, and asks you for you help in doing that.

If your family or your friends’ families have managed to keep letters from the battlefields or stories describing the life of musicians going through the war, please send them to media@spasstower.ru.

We truly believe that lines written by the participants of that terrible war are as important as works published by prominent scholars. Preserving the memory of those years, letters are becoming an important tool of communication between generations, and offering an excellent opportunity to bridge the gap between the present and war time events. Unparalleled bravery, hard work and imminent worry stand behind every word and line. Letters tell us about soldiers’ fears and strong believe in the brighter future, about their love and affection for families and friends. They help us to understand what they felt on the battlefields and during the scares hours of peace.

Thus, uniting our forces we’ll be able to do both, preserve the memory about military musicians and familiarize our audiences with their stories. The organizers of the Spasskaya Tower Festival will tell the stories of your heros on the pages of the Festival social media, sharing them with the future audiences of the 2020 production.

Honouring the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory the Directorate of the Spasskaya Tower Festival has already launched on its official website a special project dedicated to the war years music. Surfing through the ‘Music and WWII’ section you will find information about the crucial role played by the music and military musicians during the difficult times that our country had to go through. We will share many interesting and little-known facts that we’ve learned studying works by prominent researchers of the Russian and foreign military music history.
