Participants and Organizers of the Spasskaya Tower Festival Took Part in the Solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony in Moscow’s Alexander Garden

Today organizers of the Twelfth Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival and leaders of the military bands and artistic ensembles of this year’s production honored the memory of the Unknown Soldier. They took part in the solemn wreath-laying ceremony held in Moscow’s Alexander Garden. 

The organizers were represented by Lieutenant General Sergey Khlebnikov, Head of the Moscow Kremlin Commandant’s Service - Moscow Kremlin Commandant, Mr. Sergey Smirnov, Head of the Spasskaya Tower Festival Directorate, and Major General Timofey Mayakin, Head of the Military Band Music Service of the Russian Armed Forces - Chief Military Conductor.

Lieutenant General Sergey Khlebnikov told the journalists, that leaders of the Festival’s participants are always looking forward for this moment and eagerly come to the tomb of the Unknown Soldier to honor the memory of all those fallen in the armed conflicts. 

Colonel Ehtibar Aliyev, Head of the Azerbaijani delegation at the Spasskaya Tower Festival, was especially excited about the ceremony. While being a very important part of the multinational USSR history, it is also very important for every family that is bearing the memory of this hard and glorious Victory over the Fascism.

“My grandfather Hussein Aliev went to the front right after the beginning of the war. My father who was born in July of 1941 didn’t even come to know him as he fell in the Stalingrad battle and my grandmother had to bring up all her three children alone”, shared his family’s history Colonel Aliyev, adding that his other grandfather although was wounded near Chisinau met the end of the war and lived up to 98 year being a role model for his children and grand-children. “I cannot speak for other participants, but for me it was very emotional, and music contributed a lot to it”, said Colonel Aliev. 

“The wreath-laying ceremony itself was carried out to the sounds of Adagiocomposed by Lieutenant General Valery Khalilov, the first music director of the Spasskaya Tower Festival and People’s Artist of Russia”, explained Major Pavel Gernets, Head of the Exemplary Military Band of the Honor Guard that provided music accompaniment throughout the ceremony. 

The ceremony also featured the Honor Guard of the 154 Preobrazhenskiy Regiment that solemnly marched along the main lane of the Alexander Garden.
