August 24 the Eleventh Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival successfully started on Red Square featuring participation of some of the best military bands and artistic groups from all over the globe. One of the Festival’s venues will be dedicated to the 2019 Winter Universiade which is going to be held in Krasnoyarsk.
The first day of the Festival on Moscow’s Red Square was marked by the opening of the Children Playground which events’ program also included the stand of the 2019 Winter Universiade. Special photo zone of the World Students Games with spherical transparent Snow Globe filled with artificial snow has opened onsite of the Children Playground. Guests of the Festival will be welcomed by the 2019 Winter Universiade mascot, being the friendly U-Laika, Siberian dog of the Laika breed. The Laika dog is the symbol of loyalty and unstoppable energy.
August 29 the Children Playground together with the 2019 Winter Universiade will host events dedicated to the Day of Sports supported by the Foundation of Svetlana Khorkina. Two times Olympic Champion and Students Games Ambassador Svetlana Khorkina as well as other well-known sportsmen will held free master-classes for everyone. The Day of Sports celebrations are going to start at 11 a.m. guests of the Children Playground will have an opportunity to play a game of summer curling and Russian hockey (bandy), test their marksmanship in laser biathlon as well as buy souvenirs with the 2019 Winter Universiade symbols. The program also includes various sport games and contests. Besides the guests of the Festival will be briefed about the forthcoming World Students Games and how the Krasnoyarsk region is preparing for this international event.
“We are happy that our partnership with the Spasskaya Tower Festival has seen its continuation this year”, told Mr. Maxim Urazov, Head of the 2019 Winter Universiade Directorate. “We hope that our venue will present all the guest of the Festival with excellent mood and a punch of energy. Promotion of sports and healthy way of life is a very important task especially among the youth. We invite all the Muscovites and guests of the capital to come to Krasnoyarsk in March 2019. As it is an excellent opportunity to see with your proper eyes the heart of Siberia as well as visit spectacular winter sports tournaments, meet representatives of various countries and get to know what real winter is”, stated Mr. Urazov.
Let’s notice that Universiade is an equivalent of the Olympic Games in the field of student sports. World Student Games are being held under the aegis of FISU once in two years. For the first time in its history Russia is going to host winter Students Games in Krasnoyarsk from March 2 to March 12, 2019. All in all in the course of the 2019 Winter Universiade 76 sets of medals will be awarded in 11 categories, including biathlon, alpine skiing, curling, ski racing, snowboarding, sport orientation on skies, figure skating, freestyle, hockey, hockey with ball and short-track. Following the preliminary forecast 3050 sports delegates from no less than 50 countries as well as 5000 Russian and foreign volunteers will take part in the World Students Games in Krasnoyarsk.
