Flagwavers Combined Group

Giancarlo Corbi, Artistic Director of the combined group.

Flagwavers of Cori

Giancarlo Corbi, Head of the group.

In 1976 a group of young enthusiasts dreaming of reviving the medieval art of flag waving founded the group of flagwavers. Based on the original Acta documents of the 16th century describing these folklore traditions the group created a series of performances dedicated to this centuries old art calling it Gens Corana or Citizens of Cori.

This highly professional folklore ensemble features a herald and a group of trumpet players, drummers and flagwavers. Their colorful costumes, vivid music and amazing motion of flags contribute to the atmosphere of the long-forgotten past.

The Flagwavers of Cori have a unique style of performing which is known all around Italy. The group is a permanent participant of various national and international festivals. The group twice participated at the Spasskaya Tower Festival.

Caetani Flagwavers of Sermoneta

Biagio Basta, President of the Caetani Flagwavers Association.

The group was formed in 1996 to popularize the ancient art of flag waving and boost interest to national folklore. Their performances are based on the remarkable historic period of the Caetani family, two members of which were popes.

Unlike others representatives of the Italian flagwavers society that use flags with lead poles, groups from Sermoneta and Cori use flags with wooden pole, allowing them jolting flags much higher.

One of the Caetani Flagwavers performances features the return of the Duke of Sermoneta after the Lepanto Battle of 1571. They demonstrate the transition from war to peace, grounding of arms and raising the flags of the great winner.

The group successfully performs both in Italy and abroad.
