The Australian Federal Police Pipes and Drums

Australia
2007

The Australian Federal Police Pipes and Drums

Senior Drummer Gavin Kirny, Head of the Band.

The Pipes and Drums of the City of Canberra was formed in 1990, but three years later, in 1993, it got the status of the honorary band of the Australian Federal Police. In 2006 the band came to be officially called as the Pipes and Drums of Australian Federal Police (still retaining its first name). The uniform in both cases differ only by jackets, thereby the pipers wear the Ancient Caledonia tartan, while the drummers — the Canberra tartan.

The Band performs at the numerous ceremonial events, parades and festivals in Canberra and its surroundings, getting high points for the level of performance, especially for the exactness of movement in defile. The band’s achievement record scores such remarkable events as appearance at the War Memorial in Australia together with the Scottish troops before the Edinburgh Tattoo in Sydney in 2005, participation in ceremonies, dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of Victory in Norfolk Island in the same year, and at the International Police Tattoo in Adelaide in 2006 as well as a very successful tour across China.
