Band from Thailand Will Bring Spectacular Colors of Asia to Audiences at the Spasskaya Tower Festival

The Benchamatheputhit Phetchaburi Band will represent the Kingdom of Thailand at the Sixteenth Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo unfolding on Moscow’s Red Square between August 26 and September 3, 2023. Musicians have prepared a colorful performance depicting the rich and glowing culture of this South Asian state.

The Benchamatheputhit Phetchaburi Band enjoys a proud history, stretching back to 1972 when Mr. Chomyong Supatnabut, the ensemble’s first director, came up with the respective idea. The band’s record is full of impressive achievements and lists various national and international awards. In 2014, the musicians staged a show for welcoming the Thailand Royal family, as well as took part in the Phetchaburi province’s annual event called Pranakhon Kiri, performing in front of its chairman.

For the achievements in 2019, the Benchamatheputhit Phetchaburi Band participated in the Thailand World Music Championship 2019 at Sisaket province and received the prize for the best Street Parade performance. The following year the ensemble managed to take a step forward and improve their success, coming in first at two categories, the Woodwinds Battle and Brassline Battle.
In 2021, the band’s musicians took part in the Thailand International Marching Competition organized by Thailand Melodion Association, and won the best Marching Showband award, while in 2022 they participated in the Valaya Alongkorn Music Competition at Pathum Thani province and received the first place for Display.

The received achievements and awards made the Benchamatheputhit Phetchaburi Marching Band musicians very proud, but they do not want to rest on the laurels and continuously seek to develop their music talent and skills. The ensemble’s present lineup includes 50 members.

Since 2019, the ensemble’s being led and directed by Mr. Grairat Sawangdean, Director of the Benchamatheputhit Phetchaburi School, and Mr. Watchapon Wutthi, Director of the Band.

Audiences at the Sixteenth Spasskaya Tower International Military Tattoo will be treated to the spectacular performance that our guests from Thailand have prepared to showcase their country’s unique music, traditions and culture.

The Spasskaya Tower Festival is carried out following the Order of President of Russia Vladimir Putin under the patronage of the Public Council led by Mr Alexander Zhukov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and with the continued support of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Moscow Government Department of Culture. The Festival also enjoys support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives through a presidential grant.
